Guinea Fowl School Old Fowlers Association

There will be a Reunion in Johannesburg on 27th February 1999. Please contact Dereck Wetherall (Lincoln House 1967) on 00 27 11 828 0124, or write to him at P.O. Box 8423, Elandsfontein, 1406, RSA

David COUPER and his wife had a visit in November from Anthony Turner, a former pupil under David at Guinea Fowl. The school was closed for a number of years, but Anthony told David that he visited it recently, found it re-opened (totally black), and was treated like a king.

He was taken everywhere, shown everything, and asked many questions regarding the traditions of the school, and its history.

David and his wife spent four happy years there (when their son Angus was born November 1960).

Anthony says the school is in dire need of financial help.- there are acute shortages of just about everything and the sporting facilities have all-but disappeared.

David's contact details are: "Glen Etan", Dallas, Moray, IV36 OSD, Scotland. Tel: 01343 890 306

Old Chaplin Association

George Alers, the President of the O.C.A. (16 Dale Road, Marlborough, Harare, Zimbabwe) sent us the following: "The Old Chaplin Association is planning a big reunion in Harare to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Chaplin School in the year 1900.

This centennial reunion is to be held during the first weekend in May of the year 2000. Plans include a big evening gathering on Saturday 6th May at the Royal Harare Golf Club, a chapel service, a day in the country and braai at the farm of Keith & Ronel Swales near Darwendale and if there is a demand for e.g. golf, tennis and squash this will be arranged.

A gala performance at REPS for the occasion is also being investigated.

Already old girls and old boys and ex-staff from South Africa, Australia, Greece and the USA have expressed their intention to attend. So please make your first vislt in the new century to the old country in May 2000 and get to the reunion.

The exchange rate should be in your favour for a holiday in Zimbabwe!

We have written to the present headmaster of Chaplin to find out what is being planned for the anniversary at the school itself.

Ten years ago for the school's 90th birthday a full programme was organised at the school and we were able to give them our support.

We'll do our best to keep former pupils informed of developments - by Internet as well. All interested please contact me at the above address (Tel: 300169), or Allan Kitto at Mount Pleasant Pharmacy, P.O. Box MP59, Mount Pleasant, Harare. His e-mail address is: mtpleas@mail.pci.co.zw
