Hi all. Just read the xmas messages. Brought a tear to my eye. It's nearly 30 years since I left Rhodesia but it's obvious that that unique Rhodesian spirit lives on in all you wonderful people! It's days like today when I really feel homesick. Mum Alison, wife Jo-Jo and I send our warmest greetings to Rhodies worldwide, Zimbabweans at home and to Barbara, Alistair et al for providing this wonderful site. Have a happy Christmas and a PEACEFUL and prosperous new year!

I was proud to be a member of the BSAP Reserve and do my bit and so ashamed of the UK and US for selling us out. Don't let the b******s grind you down. Have a fabulous Christmas and all the very best for 2002. Anyone who wants to write, please feel free.

As oil rigs' are "dry" I expect to sink my first "cold one" in February. This is just a great oportunity to say 'Howzit' to any other Rhodesians who are spending Christmas in out of the way places. Wishing everyone a blessed Christmas and peaceful new year. Here's a "special" Christmas recipe to make you smile! "Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without this particular fruit cake recipe. If you haven't made one already, it could be just in time if you start early. Ingredients: 1 cup water 1 cup sugar 4 large eggs 2 cups dried fruit 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup brown sugar Lemon juice Walnuts 1 litre brandy Directions: Sample the brandy to check for quality and integrity. Take a large bowl. Check the brandy again to be sure it is of the highest quality. Pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer; beat 1 cup butter in a large, fluffy bowl. Add 1 teaspoon sugar and beat again. Make sure the brandy is still okay. Cry another tup. Bour one cup in through bowl. Turn off mixer. Break 2 legs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers, pry it loose with a drewscriver. Or fork. Or thingers or what ever. Sample the brandy to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift 2 cups of salt. Or something. Who cares? Check the brandy. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. And spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window. Check the brandy again. Go to bed. Who the hell likes fruitcake anyway?" With love and best wishes from John and Beulah and Michelle Frost (ex-Bulawayo)

HAPPY XMAS Rhodies all ~ I suppose this is always a time for nostalgia! I remember tickeys in puddings, big family gatherings, the smell of another exciting new book, a beautiful delicately hand-painted bottle of eau-de-cologne and prettily embroidered hankies - all special once-a-year gifts. Our parents also reminded us of the less fortunate by making us give one of our gifts to an African child, which we always did without resentment - there was true Xmas spirit around to share. one gift Hope 2002 is THE VERY BEST for everyone.......... Dec. 18, '01 Dear Mr. Smith: I was a young woman when you were the Prime Minister of Rhodesia. I lived in the beautiful town of Umtali. Those were great years and then sad when the country became independant and now as we watch our beloved country being destroyed, it is very painful. Thank you for everything you did for our country. I want you to know I appreciated it and am still very proud to be a Rhodie. Have a wonderful Christmas with your precious family. And may God bless you with strength to carry on in what you are doing. I know you must be up in years but I sincerely hope you are well and enjoying life to the full. Go well. Warm Greetings to One and All, Here's to a Merry Xmas and Peaceful New Year to you all. I would urge you all to remember our elderly in your prayers at this time of the year, especially in light of all the unrest and uncertainty in our country. The elderly and the young ones, to say the very least, are pretty bewildered at this time. It would be appreciated if you would all just spare one minute and say a little prayer for them. Thank you Warm Wishes Prodder and Melody Byng
